A spiritual aspirant (Mureed) inquired this question in a letter to Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Mawlana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (R). Following the question is the Reply given by Hazrat Thanvi (R).
Question: After Hazrat had accepted my bayat, the influence of jinn from my house has demolished. Now my wife has recovered and there is no effect of jinn on my baby too. This humble became sick at the end of Ramadan. For illness and weakness I couldn’t yet start my works. Therefore the attention of Zikr which was achieved has also disrupted and the previous attraction and zeal is also absent.
Knowing that after my bayat with you my wife got well, my sister-in-law (wife’s elder sister) has become very much eager to take bayat. As she is experiencing unpleasant relationship with her husband, I have advised her to take bayah and told her that next time I would request Hazrat to accept your bayat. But she is making haste about the matter. Now whatever Hazrat advises (will be obeyed).
Reply of Hazrat Thanvi (R): I’m glad to know about the recovery from illness. May Allah Taala provide Barakah (Additional Blessings)! However, by knowing the sister’s recovery, your in-law has got eager to take bayat is just because of idiocy and lack of knowledge. (Because) Recovering after bayat is not any Kamaal (spiritual achievement) or beneficial matter. Moreover, there is no certainty that behind recovery there was an influence of bayat (i.e. this notion is wrong that bayah will solve this and that problem). The objective of bayat is Rectifying Deen* only (nothing else). You will inform her (your sister-in-law) the right theory regarding this matter. She would do what she wishes thereafter.
Attraction and zeal are not the objective. Commence your work (Zikr etc.). And understand one point clearly that the only objective is to Please Allah Taala.

* Rectifying Deen is the solution of all problems – no doubt. However, the intention and objective of Bayat must be Self Reformation and Development of own Deen and nothing else. (Translator)
