A Strategic Move against shaytan

Here is a an effective strategy taught by Hazrat Abdul Hai Arefi (R) to us to save ourselves from the pitfall of shaytan. Hazrat Abdul Hai Arefi (R) once said, “When Allah Taala expelled iblis, the shaytan from Allah Taala’s Court, iblis said, (Meaning) Then I will come upon them (the human beings) from in front of them and from behind them and from their right and from their left. And you will not find most of them grateful. [Sura Araf:17]

Iblis knew that if man is grateful to Allah Taala then his deception and plot against the humans will be fruitless. We get a very useful lesson and way out from shaytan’s pitfall here. Thas is, if we always be grateful to Allah Taala, shaytan’s evil plot against us and deceptive plans will go in vein!”

A Real Story how man can express Gratitude to Allah Taala:

Hazrat Abdul Hai Arefi (R) related a story of his pious grandfather. It depicts how a sincere slave expresses gratitude to Allah Taala.

Hazrat Abdul Hai Arefi (R)’s grandfather was a man of qualities and he came across the company of many Pious. Hazrat Abdul Hai Arefi (R) relates to us his grandfather’s noteworthy event:

“Everyday before my grandfather would go to sleep, he used to utter the following words with high spirits and lot of emotion:

Allahumma lakal hamdu wa lakal shukr; Allahumma lakal hamdu wa lakal shukr; Allahumma lakal hamdu wa lakal shukr;

My grandfather used to sit and drowse and for a long period of time on his bed during the utterance of those words.

Once I (Abdul Hai Arefi R continues) asked my grandfather regarding the words he would utter while drowsing; I wanted to know the meaning of what he murmured before sleep. My grandfather replied, “The whole day passes away in negligence of obeying Allah’s Commandments and therefore when I go to bed, before I sleep, I remember the bounties of Allah Taala on me. He has given me good health, thus gratefully I say: Allahumma lakal hamdu wa lakal shukr. Allah Taala gives me sustenance, thus gratefully I say: Allahumma lakal hamdu wa lakal shukr. Allah Taala gave me wife, thus gratefully I say: Allahumma lakal hamdu wa lakal shukr. Allah Taala gave me children, thus gratefully I say: Allahumma lakal hamdu wa lakal shukr.

In this way I try to remember the bounties of Allah Taala on me and keep on expressing my gratitude to Him! At least in this way may how little it be – I can become grateful to Allah Taala.”

Telling this story, Hazrat Abdul Hai Arefi (R) told to the audience, “You may also express the gratitude towards Allah Taala everyday before going to sleep.”
