A Modest Brother’s Word

A beloved senior brother, Rafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, left this world and met his Lord on 25th June, 2010. His politeness and amicable behavior is still borne in our hearts who knew him well and got the opportunity to receive his cordial company on several occasions. He is among those fortunate, whose Janazah was led at Kakrail, the Tableeg Markaz in Bangladesh. We pray for him that Allah Taala forgives him and present him high rank in Jannah.

Brother Rafiq is no more in this world with us today. However, his good deeds inshallah all counts in the Court of Allah Taala. We commemorate a word from his life, which could be useful for all Muslims and it is indeed worth sharing.

By nature Brother Rafiq was always very polite and modest. With seniors he would talk with due respect and loved the juniors and interacted with them wholeheartedly. We specially remember how he used to talk with people while conveying them the Message of Islam in Gusht (the moving on from door to door and streets to invite people toward Allah). We are close witness to his humble behavior and politeness. One day, in an interval in the Gusht program, we were applauding and appraising him for his generosity. At one moment so happened that he became very ashamed and uttered something which is noticeable:  “Ah….you admire me with such words! However, the truth is, if people knew my sins, instead of toilets they would excrete their wastes over me!” Listening to these words, we, the audience was quite perplexed and thereafter became speechless. I think at that moment, just like me the others were thinking almost the same – “Could I ever even imagine such a remark regarding myself?” Indeed, the statement of brother Rafiq had itself proved how he overlooked others faults but had always seen his own. This is the way a man could actually rectify and reform. It is a quality of a true Muballig (One who does Tableeg)!

Mawlana Sa’ad Saheb (May Allah Taala prolong his shelter upon us) says, “Allah Taala gave us two eyes. With one we see the quality of others. And with the other we see our own faults. Don’t become like a swine. If you leave it in a garden full of flowers, it would start searching the filthiest place leaving out all beautiful. Finally, reaching the garbage it will poke mouth into it (i.e. you, a Muslim, should never get into finding others faults, you should not overlook the good in someone and be after his faults).”
