Why our Deeni Obligations fail

1. We are not much aware of a loss on Deeni matters, often thinking that the outcome would come later or we could compensate for it (like, do qaza etc.). However, we rush to accomplish the worldly tasks worrying to lose an opportunity.

2. Iman drives a man towards the righteous way. We have a very weak Iman. Truly this is the basic hindrance for the advancement on the Path of Deen. High Iman directs towards good deeds and unfortunately either we do not make or even if we do, we make very little efforts to increase Iman. Therefore, our deeds are mostly world-oriented, i.e for the benefits limited to this temporary life.

3. We fail to prioritize work. We forgo the works that bring in bright results in the afterlife for worldly achievements. Allah Taala vividly said in Sura A’la (meaning:): But you prefer the worldly life [16]

4. We think and act as though we would live long in this world.

5. We engage in Deeni works much less than worldly tasks, therefore, importance of accomplishing worldly tasks becomes our habit and therefore, in our hearts, its value gradually increases. On the other hand, in case of Deeni works, we lag behind by lingering and day by day its importance diminishes.

6. Many people firmly hold a notion and belief that if we become pious, our dunya (worldly affairs) would be affected; we would become poor, lose dignity etc.

7. Most of the time we attach to people who always invite, inspire and warn us to cultivate the dunya. We pass very little time with people who encourage to become pious and continuously remind the afterlife.

8. We do not have Deeni Knowledge at all or if we have some, it is insufficient. If one attains sufficient Deeni Knowledge, it guides him, reminds him and reprimands him. Today, with very little Deeni understanding we have got satisfied. Whereas, in case of worldly education, we simply admit that there is much more to learn and keep on the effort to know more.

9. Most of the time and mostly, we do dua for matters pertaining to this world. Very few people do dua to attain Allah Taala’s Love, Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wassalam’s Love and for the Tawfeeq of a pious life, seek refuge from sins and grave torment etc.

10. We have reaped the love of this dunya, but not much for the afterlife that is eternal! Therefore, the affection is very little for the afterlife.

However, Alhamdulillah, there are still people who do not compromise with the world; they prefer the afterlife and they are very sincere in fulfilling Deeni obligations. However, sad is, their number is few and it is decreasing.

Every of us should become extremely cautious and NOT lose in the afterlife for preferring the worldly life.
