Mawlana Ahmad Lat Saheb’s Bayan: Part 4

Tongi Ijtema 2010, Bangladesh, Jan 21, Thursday: After Magrib

Continued from Part 3

A group of people, who were dwelling in different places beside Madina heard that the Final Prophet has come into this world. Hearing the news they came to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhiwassalam and asserted, “O Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam! We have become Believers (in terms of Islam).” Before Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam could reply, Allah Taala sent Hazrat Jibreel (AM) and the Angel told Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam, “O Rasulullah! Warn them (the people who have just come) that they haven’t yet become Believers (in terms of Islam)! Yes, this has happened for now that they have uttered the Words of Bearing Witness - Recited the Kalima of a Believer and outwardly have become Muslim. However, these people yet don’t possess the right to claim themselves as Believers. Iman - the Essence of Faith hasn’t yet reached the desired level i.e. the hearts core; that is not possible until and unless they are under the complete obedience of Allah Taala and His Rasool.”

It must be noted that if a person becomes a Believer, it will so happen that without his own knowledge his life would change; the situations of his house will change (by the effect of his Belief and deeds); the means and ways of his income will change; change will also come into the ceremonies and marriage arrangements (all occasions) in his life.

Allah Taala announces: (Meaning) The Bedouins say, “We have come to believe.” Say, ‘You have not come to believe; instead you (should) say, ‘We have surrendered’ and the belief has not entered your hearts so far. And if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not curtail (the reward of) any of your deeds in the least. Surely Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful. Sura Hujrat: 14

Iman which effects life is the requirement. Such Iman would introduce us as Believers in all walks of life; each and every work will be effected by this Iman. And such Iman cannot be achieved overnight by listening and uttering the words of Iman just once or few times. Such Iman - the Essence of Faith can be achieved by the way Allah Taala has stated,

(Meaning) And those who strive in Our way, We will certainly take them to Our paths, and indeed Allah is with those who are good in deeds.  Sura Ankabut: 69

An enduring effort is necessary to attain such invaluable Iman. Bearing the pains and sufferings, undergoing the suffering of hunger, sleeplessness and all other adverse circumstances on the Path of Allah Taala will result in such Iman, and it is for such a striver Allah Taala announces: “We will certainly take them to Our paths”; all what he desired, both in this life and in the life hereafter will be fulfilled for him.

Our objective of gathering here is to attain this Iman, on which Allah Taala’s Promises would become reality for us - the Peace, Success and Prosperity we desire in this world and life hereafter will be gained.   Inshallah to be continued

Mawlana Ahmad Lat Saheb’s Bayan: Part 3

Tongi Ijtema 2010, Bangladesh, Jan 21, Thursday: After Magrib

Continued from Part 2

Allah Taala stated in the Quran that Quran is (Meaning:) “Hidayat for the Muttaqeen” - What does Hidayat mean? Actually Hidayat is a Noor (Light), through which man realizes (the difference between) Good and Bad Deeds. A man understands through Hidayat’s Light that which deed brings in reward and which one brings in sin. This Light guides a man to understand by which deed will Allah Taala be pleased and which deeds will make Allah Taala angry. Just as the sunlight, moonlight and torch in our pockets help to see the worldly things, similarly through the Light of Hidayat, the merits and demerits of deeds can be understood by us.

Iman is one basis for achieving success, peace and unity. And by this it is not meant that for Iman you abandon every thing, leave behind your homes and relatives and all. If you are a businessman or on service, carry on your work. (Rather the point is:) If you are affluent, you must follow the Commands of Allah Taala and don’t be boastful. If you are poor, have patience and abide by the Commands of Allah Taala. For following the Commands of Allah Taala, in all these situations Allah Taala will make you successful. When man will holds Faith - Iman on Allah Taala, removes the believe of all from his heart, Allah Taala gives him Hidayat. This is the announcement of Allah Taala that if one’s heart firmly holds the Faith on Allah Taala, he is given Hidayat. And it is through that Hidayat, he sees success in his Deeds accomplished; he will be able to see the good and bad sides of a deed. When Hidayat enters into a man, he inclines to Allah Taala and he firmly relies on Allah Taala. Consequently, he will be doing Tawba for his previous sins. If he had been an oppressor, he will do Tawba from oppression; if he had been telling lies, he would abandon telling lies; If he had the habit of destroying the rights of other people, he would also return those and through such Tawba his inside would be become pure. As mentioned, the inside of Sahaba (RA) was pure. After achievement of Hidayat ‘Iman’s Haqiqat’ i.e. the Essence of Faith would be exposed. And then will his Deeds rectify, on which depends the Opening of Doors of Heaven and Earth. His deeds will rectify and his Akhlaq i.e. Good Character will build up - he will not spoil the rights of others, not tell lie, not oppress others, not engage in backbiting (not do ‘geebat’), not slander anyone. His earning will also be purified. He will be sincere in purifying his earnings and that is through earning Halal. It is not for Iman that Hidayat is hindered today, rather, it is because of the deficiency in Haqiqat of Iman i.e. (deficiency in) the Essence of Faith for which Hidayat is being hindered. Allah Taala will fulfill all the desires we crave for today if we only attain the Haqiqat of Iman i.e. the Essence of Faith. Man is looking for success in this world; Allah Taala will give him whatever he wants if man earns the Essence of Faith. Today man is strained; surrounded with colossal problems. Many unwanted things are happening. Such had happened In the past too. Also In the future there are many more things to be taken place. Allah Taala has given all the past, present and future information and/or news in the Quran. Allah Taala has provided thorough explanations of all these happenings of today and to be happened tomorrow. The adversaries which are and will take place in man’s life & on the earth are all because of the lack in Iman. Iman or Faith on Allah Taala has to be such that He is the one and only Doer; He is the only Razzaq - Sustainer, neither the land nor the skies can feed; He would feed how ever He wants and wishes. Hazrat Sufian Sawri (R) in this regard said, “If anytime the land turns into iron and the ability of rainfall completely stops, then if a man states - Oh! How will food be managed now? - These words prove that he lacks Iman, he is in kufr (disbelief); the words uttered by him is disbelief and he possesses no Faith on Allah Taala. Because to feed His slaves, Allah Taala is not at all dependent upon the skies or lands - absolutely nothing is necessary for Allah Taala to feed His slaves - He Himself is sufficient to feed his slave; simply no means is required for Him to do so.

Many things to be happened in the world are there, which Allah Taala directed Rasulullah Sallallahu alaiyhi wa Sallam to inform us and many things have been directly mentioned in the Quran.

During the Khilafat of Hazrat Umar (RA), a young woman came to Madnia from Yemen. Hazrat Umar (RA) asked the woman about the experience on her way to Madina. The woman replied that the whole way was very peaceful and secured for her. She narrated that she found the men like brothers and when she reached from one village to another, she felt as if she was moving from one room to another of her own house - safety and security so to such an extent! Listening to her description, Hazrat Umar (RA) stated, “O woman! This is what the taste and outcome of Iman is.” This is that Iman which is not limited in words, this is not the Iman which is limited to hearing, rather this is the Essence of Faith (Iman).

After understanding all we have a question regarding Rizk - sustenance. Allah Taala has affixed the relation of Rizk with Iman too. Allah Taala announces that if people of any locality, regardless of being from any place, holds firm Faith on Allah Taala and there is nothing else on which they depend on, Allah Taala promises that He would open the Doors of Barakah of heaven and earth for them. But that promise is with such Iman - something else rather than limited only in words! Inshallah to be continued

Mawlana Ahmad Lat Saheb’s Bayan: Part 2

Tongi Ijtema 2010, Bangladesh, Jan 21, Thursday: After Magrib

Continued from Part 1

Everyone in this world wants to come out successful; all want peace and security; all people desire each others love and affection. All the lawsuits and courts have been set up in view to attain these. In fact, there is no solution coming out through these arrangements. How would a solution come out? Indeed, the solution is in the Quran (and not in those mentioned). Peace and prosperity will come by abiding the Quran. Only in such a life can all these be attained, which follows the Quran. These cannot be attained by any other means. The solution to economic problems and all related to it has been provided by Allah Taala in the Quran and Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam had also guided us to solve these problems (in the Light of the Quran). Abiding the Quran is on the premise of some bases. Among those, major is Iman-bil-Gaiyb - Faith upon the Unseen. [Referring to the  beginning Verses of Sura Baqara] After ‘Hudallil Muttaqeen’ Allah Taala has mentioned certain Deeds to accomplish. The things which we see are actually the matters of deception. All the matters will deceive us if our reliance is upon those, i.e. if we hold belief that the ‘matters’ of this world are doers we will definitely go astray. But after we hold firmly The Faith upon the Unseen and if we keep on acting upon the Deeds which Allah Taala Ordered then for them Allah Taala said that (Meaning) It is these who are on guidance given by their Lord; and it is just these who are successful - Sura Baqarah 5

Those who will hold firmly the Faith upon Allah Taala, establish Salah (Prayers), Spend money from one’s wealth (give Zakat etc.), hold the Faith upon the Prophets (Alaiyhimu Salam) and believe firmly in all the Divine Books (the Quran and all the other Divine Books) - about them Allah Taala says that, they have acted according to the Guidance of Allah Taala (the Quran) and they are indeed successful.

And how would be the Iman, which must be attained? It should be such that my ’seen’ can be wrong; even something which all the people are viewing can be wrong.  But the Faith on Allah Taala and in the Words of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi was Sallam can never even be doubtful, let alone wrong. There is no doubt in the Words of Allah Taala! All the things of this world will be demolished and destroyed, but Allah Taala Himself has declared that His Zaat would never. Firmly hold the Belief that Allah Taala is Haq (True), Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam is Haq, the punishment and peace of grave is Haq, Qiyamah will occur and it is Haq - there is no doubt about it. Allah Taala Himself announces: O the People! Fear Allah Taala. Verily the Shake of Qiyamah is extremely terrible! If Allah Taala says something something extremely terrible, to what extent  would it be terrible!

Firm Faith (Iman) must be held upon all mentioned. Such Iman, prepares us for A’mal - Good Deeds; inspires us toward Good Deeds; creates Firm Belief regarding Good Deeds. What will be the influences of the Good Deeds during death, after entering into the grave, while standing in front of Allah Taala - the firm Belief regarding these has to be into our heart.

Iman, i.e. Faith upon the Unseen must be such, just as Prophet Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam has build up that of the Sahabas’ (RA) through undergoing hardship. For this reason it is said that the Hearts of Sahaba (RA) was very pure. Their Iman was such that all the wealth, opponent-power, whatever may it be - the strength of wealth and weapons - if all these are accumulated to accomplish something, nothing would happen, which Allah Taala didn’t wish to. On the other hand, if Allah Taala wishes something to do, there is no such ability or power to refrain and stop Him. This was the Firm Belief - Yaqeen of the Sahaba (RA). With this Pure Belief their Hearts were also Pure. Their hearts were pure; and their knowledge was deep. They had the Knowledge of the Quran and Hadith. Look into our condition: the knowledge which should have been attained has not been achieved by us, though we have learned many things. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam’s words were very firmly accepted by their hearts. The Sahaba (RA) could deny something they have seen, or listened, or a speech from this world, but never ever could they accept that the Words of Prophet Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam would be wrong - his words are true and there can be not a single doubt in it. The Sahaba (RA) had been selected by Allah Taala and sent to this world. So they are the ones to be followed.

Hazratji Yusuf (R) said, “If someone wants to know about a thing of this world, then a glance toward it is enough to know what it is. But if someone wants to build up the Belief upon ‘the unseen’, on which depends eternal success - both in this world and in the life hereafter, only few times of uttering the words of Iman will not be sufficient. Several times, a thousand times - more than a thousand times and abundantly one must say that Allah Taala is the Lord and Doer, He has no partner at all. Allah Taala’s Might must be discussed profusely; Allah Taala is the Creator, He has no match. A person who would practice this for a long period and listen to such sayings and keep on reflecting on the thoughts of Allah Taala’s Doing, there is hope that he would achieve the Firm Belief, which is the key to success in both in the world and Life hereafter. Inshallah to be continued

Mawlana Ahmad Lat Saheb’s Bayan: Part 1

Tongi Ijtema 2010, Bangladesh, Jan 21, Thursday: After Magrib

Just as all the Muslims in this gathering believe in Allah Taala, they also believe in Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam. Similarly the whole gathering also has faith on Taqdeer - Predestination. Similarly, all have the belief that after death we would be raised and have to be present in front of Allah Taala. And not only this gathering, rather all who are Believers, they believe in these. In the same way all believe in Quran, that it is revealed by Allah Taala and there is no doubt in it. The Quran is HudallinNas, i.e. the Quran is Hedayat i.e. Guide for the whole mankind irrespective of variation in country, gender, solvency, time, place and all other factors. The Quran is the Guide for whole life for the whole mankind.

Hazratji Yusuf (R) used to say that when a man looks toward some place, he sees all the things on that side be it small or big. Even if a needle is in front of him, he sees it; and the big ones catches his sight for sure. But on the opposite side; the side which is behind him i.e. the backside, even if there is the Himalayas at his back, he doesn’t see it! Simply because that is the backside and he isn’t looking at that direction. A time had been passed by this Ummah, when every Ummah’s eyes were toward the Quran. As their eyes were toward the Quran, they had been seeing all the solutions of their life in it. It was by the Quran through which, they got the solutions to all problems from Allah Taala. A long time and long span had passed by this Ummah in such way.

But then, how sad - sorrow upon sorrow! Our complain is to Allah Taala - now this Ummah has completely diverted from the Quran. All the Ummah’s sight is upon the situation of this world; upon the wealth of this world; upon the things created by Allah Taala. The people have engrossed in the wealth and creation in such way they see all the solutions to all problems in the wealth. Those people whose sight are only on the wealth not they alone, even the ones who believe in Akhirat - the Life hereafter a bit, they too believe that wealth is the means to get saved in the Life hereafter. Such has become the difference in understanding between the Ummah of past and today!

May Allah Taala accept our gathering here today, this is not a traditional gathering that every year we are gathering so now we are here again. The objective of this gathering is that may all - including the ones present and not, including the ones who are to come in future - all our sight turn from Maal to A’mal i.e. from wealth to Good Deeds. Another objective for which we’ve gathered is that all of us turn toward Akhirat i.e. the Life hereafter and believe that the Life hereafter is the ultimate place to earn and achieve; actual success is the success of the Life hereafter - may this understanding be attained by us and the rest of the world. Inshallah to be continued

Complacency regarding Iman and Islam

Complacency is a great mishap on the Path to Jannah. It often lurks in one’s mind in such a manner that he doesn’t pay much heed. One may have to pay a big price for it!

The so and so developments of this world has taken place and are still developing only due to no complacency, how can we the Believers then sit back and relax about the Life Hereafter? We have Iman and Islam today; this doesn’t prove that tomorrow our state would remain the same. Moreover, the worry which can very simply make someone quite apprehensive is to lose Iman in the death bed! There are disobedience and sins which result in so!

If we record the small talks of Muslims today, we find a large number has relied on Allah Taala about Life hereafter. However, very few is there who rely on Allah Taala about the matters of this world. Most of us make continuous efforts to live a better life; when asked why do you work so hard for this transitory life(?) - the plain answer is - Didn’t Allah Taala tell us to try?

Well….about Akhirat (Life hereafter)? If someone reminds and reprimands us for the preparation of Akhirat, we feel disgusted and annoyed. Our self-esteem takes the shape of arrogance. We feel uncomfortable at the stance of being advised and reproached. We get vexed on the adviser(s) that how dare they pull my legs urging to work for Akhirat! Does he not know Who I am?

However, look into the worldly affairs. How abundantly we each are advised, rebuked and warned daily from several authorities and superiors! We never mind to those, rather become concern what was told. We patiently listen, embark and take corrective measures and make all out efforts to improve and develop.

This was only one comparative example of the extent of our senses’ triggering in case of hereafter life and the worldly life.

How plainly has the Lord of this Universe said to mankind,
But you prefer the worldly life [16] while the Hereafter is much better and much more durable.[17] Sura Al-A’la

This verse is indeed a warning for all Believers!

No Taste in Worship: Test vs Taste Part 2

When a man is on service, he attends office and engages at regular works. There are times he gets bored or he becomes some sort of reluctant to office works. There are even situations, his mind doesn’t get set to attend the office. However, thinking of the return i.e. salary at the end of the month, he undertakes the pains and exerts. He addresses his nafs: Now you dislike to go to office, but on ‘the payment day’ you’ll have to repent and regret! So better be off for office today! Go and work though you find no taste or interest! The reward and return is about to come soon!

Indeed, a person who ignores all sluggishness and exerts against will, thinks of the better and long-term consequences is always better off. All the same is in worship. No taste, no interest. But if you exert, tomorrow the reward is yours. Unwilling to attend Fajr at Mosque, unwilling to recite the Quran, unwilling to attend Majlis or Pious Gatherings - tell your nafs: The Judgment Day is drawing near! What will happen to you? Also say, now you are fit and healthy - what will happen when you will fall sick and one day also be on the death bed? Therefore, if you want Return and Reward - this is the time! Don’t be lazy! Don’t lag behind!

One devout advised his son: When you engage or devote yourself to worshiping Allah Taala, bear in mind the state of Qabr (grave) and Qiyamah (the Day of Resurrection)! By doing so, exerting your worship would become easy!

The above mentioned advice is very useful for us while boredom and monotony in Ibadat (worship). May Allah Taala save us from laziness and negligence! May Allah Taala also bless us with the bounty of taste and great attraction of Ibadat! However, we should stick strictly in Ibadat with sincerity, fear and hope. We shouldn’t ‘look for’ something thinking that ‘I have done so and so but Allah Taala didn’t provide me what I deserved’ - Allah Taala forbid - such should never be the thought in mind!!!

Our Ibadat is of no value sure, however, we have to try utmost and pray to Allah Taala for forgiveness and acceptance. Inshallah, He would provide Acceptance, Reward and Success in Return. Our work and initiatives are to attract His Rahmah (Blessing) through sincere efforts and Dua!

No Taste in Worship: Test vs Taste

Don’t worry if you don’t get taste in Ibadat/Worship. Aim and objective of accomplishing Ibadat/Worship is not ‘getting taste’. Aim and objective of Ibadat is to get Allah Taala - Satisfy Him. If one gets pleasure and taste in Ibadat that is additional bounty and blessing. However, Allah Taala often takes away taste and tests whether the slave is running after ‘taste’ or is s/he really being sincere in his/her work, i.e. obeying the Commands of Allah Taala with utmost effort. Taste fluctuates. Especially people who start striving on the Path of Allah Taala, they try to undergo all sort of hardship and when they become ’sick and tired’ by not getting ‘much taste’, they start to become reluctant and begin losing hope. Be aware! Don’t lose hope because of losing ‘taste’. We are not the slaves of ‘taste’! We are the slaves of Allah Taala. In all walks of life for a Muslim this is a challenge. Often we need to do such things, which mind doesn’t set for. However, it is necessary to work and hold the patience.

For this reason, Spiritual Guide on the Path of Allah Taala is very beneficial; attaching to the Ulama and attain the right direction to pursue every task is essential and has no alternative.

The Worries, Troubles and Calamities in our life

Known as the Qutub of his time, a great Saint, resting in Jannatul Baqi (Madina Munawwara) Shaykhul Hadith Hazrat Mawlana Zakaria Saharanpuri (R) whose Fazayel-e-Amal is read throughout the world and this Saint has accomplished such work of Deen (By the Blessing of Allah Taala), this Ummah cannot repay him back. May Allah Taala fill is Qabr with Noor! (Ameen!)

Presenting a very important note from him. For every Muslim this is not only essential to know, it is worthy to always remember too and become extremely careful in life.

Mawlana Zakaria (R) says:

The troubles which man faces in life are all because of his deeds. I have mentioned this in my several writings. Let out general people, even the Ulama are in wrong regarding the matter. When someone is in trouble, for instance he has been sent to jail or something is stolen or may be there is a false allegation in the court against him, whereas, the person is innocent. Why had such happened to him? But my firm belief is that the trouble hasn’t come without a reason. Own faults escape man’s eyes. The guards of Allah Taala is over our head. It is the Blessing of Allah Taala that He doesn’t catch us instantly; he gives the opportunity to make Tawba. But when the slave’s evildoing increases and exceeds Tawba there is a decision of punishment by Allah Taala. And that punishment may come at such a moment when he is innocent. The slave thinks that I am innocent, why had such trouble surrounded me? Many even criticize the Divine Decision! Whereas, this punishment hadn’t been for petty matters. Hazrat Ayesha (R)’s sister Hazrat Asma (R) once got hurt on the head and by touching her head she said, “O Allah! I must have committed some sin!”

In Quran Allah Taala states:
Plight has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of the people have earned, so that He (Allah) makes them taste some of what they did, in order that they may return (to the right way). Sura Rum: 41

Hazrat Ali (R) said, once Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam told me, “O Ali! I am telling you the tafseer of this verse. whatever trouble inflicts you, let be it disease or punishment or worries of this world, those are because of your deeds.”

Now one may doubt that on the Prophets (AM) also so many troubles have surrounded (and also in the life of the Pious)! And even from AHadith it is clear that the Ambiya (AM) had to undergo the biggest of problems in life. What is the explanation then? Thanvi (R) has answered to this question in his writings and in short it is:

Troubles are of two types: Haqiqate Musibat and Surate Musibat. The first one is indeed Musibat - trouble and problem. However, the second one is outwardly (in Surat) a Musibat - trouble and problem, in fact it is, not so. The way you can recognize what type is the Musibat (problem): when you see that through a problem or trouble worries inflict and is painful for the man, that is Haqiqate Musibat - genuine trouble. On the other hand, when through the trouble/problem the relationship with Allah Taala increases, that is Surate Musibat - outwardly trouble; indeed the attention toward Allah Taala increases through such adversary and this is not a trouble, rather a bounty. Therefore, the troubles which inflict on Ambiya (AM) and the pious are Rahmah - Blessing. In such problems they do not get worried. Their submission toward Allah Taala increases. This can be compared to the embracing of two friends. When someone meets his friend after a gap he joyfully embraces him. However, if the same is done against a criminal after catching him, i.e. pull him by force - this grips up tension in the criminal’s heart.

Therefore, Allah Taala similarly imposes two forces on his slave. One against the offender (the sinner) and another toward the pious and noble man.

Note: For the sinner this is  force is a warning. For the pious it is often a test, but definitely a blessing. We should turn towards Allah Taala through Tawba and Istegfar when we get into troubles. And please note also that there are other Tafseer/Explanation of the Ayat 41 of Sura Rum.

Only Learning Islam from Books?

These days people think that reading books are sufficient to achieve the knowledge and understanding of Deen.

Whenever Allah Taala has revealed a divine message, i.e. a Divine Book, He has sent it with a Messenger, i.e. Prophet (AM). Such hadn’t happened that Allah Taala sent a Book, but not a Prophet (AM) with it. The Guide is essential; Book alone wasn’t sufficient. On the other hand notice that many Prophets (AM) had been sent without Books! Prophets (AM) alone were effective; without Divine Book Prophets (AM) guided his people. Similarly, it is possible that without books today only Proper Human Guide can lead the people along the Righteous Path. But many among us are making a big mistake. We are getting satisfied by reading books only. Many people don’t feel it at all necessary to clarify the concepts of Deen from Ulama and assume that only reading has helped them understand Islam completely. This leads to distortion i.e. false understanding of Deen. False understanding of Deen distorts and spoils worship and whole life.

We do not deny the benefit of reading books. Books of Tafseer, Hadith, Biographies and Words of the wise are very beneficial. However, only relying on books, i.e. become  fully contented over reading alone can never provide comprehensive understanding of Deen.

Therefore, besides achieving Divine Knowledge through reading books, we must attach to the Ulama who provide vivid guidelines and specifically points  out where, when, how to act upon the Good Deeds.
